Project Type: Urban Forest Management Plan
Description: The Tacoma City Council adopted a new chapter in Tacoma’s Comprehensive Plan, the Urban Forestry Policy Element. The Environmental Services Department along with PlanIT Geo developed the Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) to create a shared vision and road map that supports the policy element and enhances the city. The UFMP strengthens themes such as Resource Management, Equity and Accessibility, Canopy Health & Growth, Long-Term Funding, Climate Resiliency, Enhanced Ecosystem Services and Benefits, and Community Engagement & Stewardship. Specific goals for Tacoma’s urban forest were developed to address Management Policy, Professional Capacity, Funding and Authority, Inventories and Plans, Risk and Disaster Management, and Community Engagement.
